TraveLibro India Gir National Park Featured City Excursion to Somnath Temple

Excursion to Somnath Temple

Visit an important place of pilgrimage on the India map—Somnath Temple, which is located at a mere 50 km from Gir National Park. Dedicated to Lord Shiva and believed to be one of the 12 ‘jyotirlingas’ in India, this sacred place has many interesting legends relating to the highly revered Lord Shiva. Admire the temple architecture that is the creative handiwork of the Sompura Salats, one of Gujarat's master masons. Marvel at the famous Bāṇastambha or ‘Arrow Pillar’ and participate in the ‘aarti’, which is awe-inspiring in itself. Do note that non-Hindus need to seek permission from the trust to visit the temple.
