Dhankar Gompa

Accessible by road from Kaza and Tabo at a distance of about 24 km, Dhankar Gompa is a sight to behold. The brilliant beauty of its location is sure to leave one spellbound, the monastery is considered to be one of the world's most spectacular settings for a Gompa. Those who are up for a little adventure can embark on a three-km trek from Dhankar Village to admire the Dhankar Lake situated at an altitude of 4,517 m.

Chandra Taal

Chandra Taal or Moon Lake is a jewel crowning the spectacular Lahaul Spiti valley. Located at an altitude of 4,300 m and flaunting an impressive crescent shape lake with a 2.5 km circumference, this pristine lake seduces photographers and adventure lovers from all over the world. The lake is surrounded by snow-capped mountains some of which rise as high as 6,300 m. The adventure seekers can embark on a Batal-Chandratal Lake-Baralacha Pass trek between June and September. You are likely to be accompanied by shepherds with their herds of sheep making their way to the green Chandra pastures.

Ki Monastery

Ki Monastery or Key Gompa is seven km away from Kaza and situated at an elevation of 4,116 m. The monastery went through a series of destructions due to wars between Ladakh and Kulu, Dogra and Sikh army, as well as a nasty earthquake that caused further damage. Despite this, the monastery continues to amaze its visitors with its mammoth size, fine paintings and murals of the 14th century monastic architecture. Admire the magnificent complex of the monastery in the backdrop of the stunning Spiti Valley. Witness the religious zeal of the monks who undergo training here.

Nako Village

With Kaza as your base, visit the picturesque Nako Village, situated at a height of 3,662 m. In the summer months, you can enjoy a scenic boat ride on Nako Lake, while in winter, it becomes a venue for ice skating. Take any of the popular treks, which include the lush green scenery of Pin Parvati Trek, Bara-lacha la Chandertal Trek via Batal or Kunzum Pass and Hampta Pass Trek from Manali into the Lahaul Spiti valley. All the above treks require about 10-12 days and are graded as moderate to challenging. The best time to go on most them is between June and October.
