TraveLibro United Kingdom Newcastle Featured City Tyne Bridge

Tyne Bridge

The tenth tallest structure in Newcastle, the Tyne Bridge is a through arch bridge that was constructed from 1925–1928. Made up of Cornish granite and painted green, it spans a length of 1,276 ft. To mark the occasion of the golden jubilee in 1978, thousand balloons were released in the air along with a vintage vehicle parade. It is one of the most iconic and striking of the seven bridges located on the River Tyne. It receives most of its recognition and importance during the Great North Run annually, during which 52,000 runners cross over the bridge. A must visit, we say.
