Rishikesh

TraveLibro India Rishikesh Featured City
The holy town of Rishikesh lying by the sacred river Ganga (Ganges), hit the famous city charts when the Beatles dropped in to perform at the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi Ashram, which is now closed. It is also called the ‘World Capital of Yoga’ being home to many ‘yogis’, ‘sadhus’ and a regular spot for pilgrims. However, it is not only about meditation and pilgrimages, Rishikesh also serves as the getaway to many Himalayan treks and adventure sports such as white water rafting, rock climbing, cliff jumping, rappelling, mountain biking, kayaking, skiing, and bungee jumping (it has India’s highest bungee). The beautiful Shivalik mountain range is a haven for trekkers and backpackers. The marvellous Ganga ‘Aarti’ by the banks of the mighty river, and the many ashrams with their religious discourses and yoga programmes lend Rishikesh an ethereal charm. Serene and spiritual, this wonderful retreat is not only about divinity, it is also about unwinding and rejuvenating in the verdant surroundings with a strong religious vibe.
