San Fernando Cathedral

The 17th century old San Fernando Cathedral is the centre point of Catholic religious life in San Antonio and also the oldest structure in Texas. While its baptismal front is the oldest piece of liturgical furnishing in the cathedral, it was considerably enlarged in the Gothic Revival style in 1868. Marvel at the carved stone Stations of the Cross, the striking stained glass windows and absorb the solitude that cathedral has to offer. The church houses a small coffin that presumably holds the remains of the men who died at the Alamo. This is also where the Texas hero James Bowie married Ursula de Veramendi.
