Lincoln Memorial

The Lincoln Memorial was built in honour of the 16th President of United State of America, Abraham Lincoln. The edifice is built in ancient Greek style architecture that features 36 impressive columns. The Lincoln statue is 19 foot tall and weighs about 175 tons. It took about four years to carve this contemplating statue of President Lincoln. The chambers on the each side of the statue bare inscriptions of ‘Lincoln’s Second Inaugural Address’ and his famous speech, ‘The Gettysburg Address’. This famed site is located on the west end of the National Mall and is visited by about six millions of visitors each year.

Thomas Jefferson Memorial

Visit the Thomas Jefferson Memorial built in honour of the third President of the United States, Thomas Jefferson. It is located on the southern end of the National Mall, on the shore of the Potomac River. This beautiful edifice has a strong resemblance to the Pantheon of Rome and the University of Virginia rotunda. The fine detailing on its architecture is easily visible through its prominent architectural features such as the circular marble steps, a circular colonnade that contains 26 impressive order columns and portico. Inside the memorial stands the 19-foot tall bronze statue of Thomas Jefferson and stanzas from the Declaration of Independence are inscribed on the southwest wall.

Open 24 hours a day, the memorial is located near the Constitution Gardens on the National Mall and northeast of the Lincoln Memorial.

Korean War Veterans Memorial

The Korean War Veterans Memorial was built to commemorate the soldiers who served the U.S. armed forces during the three year long Korean War. A brain child of Frank Gaylord, The memorial comprises of a diorama, consisting of 19 life-size stainless steel statues, portraying an American squad patrol standing on juniper bushes, divided by granite strips, symbolising the Korean rice paddies. The troops are dressed in ponchos which depicts the cold weather they had to face. Another, interesting section on this site is the ‘Mural Wall’ which comprises of 41 panels which is etched with murals derived from the actual photographs of the army, airmen, marines, other ground troops and supporters.
